Grand Valley State competes on day one of NCAA DII indoor championships

Grand Valley State University concluded the first day of the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis. Six athletes from the Lakers participated in four events, achieving two podium finishes and advancing two to finals.

Brooke Bowers began her competition at 3 p.m. in the women's pole vault. The freshman cleared initial heights with ease but fell short at 4.20m (13-9.25), her personal best. Her performance at 4.17m (13-8.25) secured seventh place and earned two points for her team.

Maria Mitchell competed in the women's mile prelims, finishing fifth in her heat with a time of 4:45.80, which qualified her for Saturday's finals at 3:15 p.m.

In the men's mile prelims, Caleb Futter and Owen Westerkamp represented GVSU. Westerkamp finished ninth in his heat and seventeenth overall with a time of 4:09.12, while Futter placed fourth in his heat and fifth overall with a time of 4:05.07, securing his spot in Saturday's finals at 3:25 p.m.

The day concluded with Lauren Kiley achieving a personal best of 16:16.51 in the women's 5000m event, earning sixth place and All-America honors along with three team points for GVSU. Allie Arnsman finished twelfth with a time of 16:40.01.

Grand Valley State will continue competing tomorrow starting at noon, featuring twenty-four athletes across ten events, including five participants in men's high jump—the most from any single event for GVSU.
