Grand Valley State University's track and field teams concluded the second day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis. The Lakers participated in ten events with 24 athletes, achieving 11 podium finishes. The men's team accumulated 41.5 points, while the women's team earned 17 points.
Luke Jelderks competed first for Grand Valley in the high jump but did not advance to the finals, finishing 14th with a mark of 7.04m (23-1.25). In women's weight throw, Alaina Omonode achieved a season-best of 19.49m (63-11.5), ranking first in her flight, while Shelby Ulven recorded a personal best of 19.42m (63-8.75). Both advanced to finals but did not improve their marks; Omonode placed fifth and Ulven seventh.
The men's high jump featured five GVSU athletes, with Eli Kosiba being crowned national champion after clearing 2.23m (7-3.75) on count-back against Jaivon Harrison who also cleared the same height. Jonathan Rankins-James took third place with a mark of 2.20m (7-2.5). Marcus Gelpi placed sixth at 2.14m (7-0.25), while Braden Prielipp finished 17th at 2.01m (6-7).
In the women's 800m prelims, Lilly Alberts finished fourth in her heat with a time of 2:09.62 but did not advance to finals, placing overall twelfth.
Sam Allen and Scott Spaanstra excelled in men's 800m prelims; Spaanstra was second in his heat at 1:50.80 and Allen led all heats with a time of 1:50.21.
Alaina Diaz participated in women's long jump recording her best attempt at 5.83m (19-1.5), ranking tenth overall.
Men's weight throw saw Michael Griffey achieve a personal best of 19.94m (65-5), advancing him alongside James MacKey Jr., who threw for third place at finals with a mark of 20.92m (68-7.75), and Myles Kerner securing fourth place at finals with a mark of 20.29m (66-7).
Myles Rhodes ran the men's 200m prelims finishing fifteenth overall at a time of 21:36 without advancing to finals.
Both squads competed in distance medley relays; women secured third place narrowly missing second by one second, while men placed seventh.
Grand Valley will conclude their participation tomorrow starting with women's shot put followed by team awards presentations later that evening.
