Grand Valley State finishes strong at NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships

Grand Valley State University's track and field teams concluded the 2025 indoor season with notable achievements at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. The men's team secured second place with a score of 61.5 points, trailing behind Pittsburg State's 76 points. A significant contribution came from the high jump squad, which earned first, second, third, and sixth places, adding 26.5 points to the team's total. Myles Kerner, crowned National Shot Put Champion, contributed an additional 10 points.

The women's team finished in third place with 47 points across 17 events. They followed Pittsburg State (63) and Minnesota State (58). Lauren Kiley and Kaylee Diamond emerged as national champions in the 3000m and high jump respectively, contributing significantly to the team's score.

Head coach Jerry Baltes commented on the team's performance: "We had an incredible three days of competing. Our goal is always to compete for team champions and we were in the mix throughout the entire competition."

In other events, Dolan Gonzales excelled in pole vaulting by achieving a personal best of 5.24m (17-2.25), earning fifth place and All-America honors. In women's shot put, Mackenzie Bohrer ranked 14th while Kennedy Jackson placed 16th.

Maria Mitchell and Caleb Futter both achieved eighth-place finishes in their respective mile finals, earning All-America honors. Myles Kerner continued his success in men's shot put with a throw of 19.22m (63-0.75), securing back-to-back national champion titles.

Kaylee Diamond set a new personal best and Grand Valley record in women's high jump with a mark of 1.81m (5-11.25), becoming national champion.

Sam Allen and Scott Spaanstra represented GVSU in men's 800m finals, finishing sixth and seventh respectively while earning All-American honors.

Lauren Kiley claimed victory in the women's 3000m event with a time of 9:26.14, followed closely by Natalie Graber who became runner-up at 9:26.91.

The day concluded with GVSU's women's relay team securing eighth place on the podium for their performance in the women's 4x400m relay.

Baltes expressed pride in his athletes' performances: "I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes in how they competed but more importantly who they are as people and how each represents our program in such a positive manner."

As the indoor season ends, GVSU's track and field teams will soon transition to outdoor competitions starting next weekend.
