Eli Kosiba recently represented USA Track & Field (USATF) at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. Competing in the men's high jump, Kosiba secured a fourth-place finish with a jump of 2.28 meters (7-5.75). His performance matched the marks of the second and third place athletes but was decided on count back.
This event marked Kosiba's second appearance on an international stage following his participation in the 2023 Pan American Games where he achieved a height of 2.15 meters (7-0.5). Reflecting on his growth, Kosiba stated, "This has been a year of growth mentality for me... I was calm during the competition; I've played this moment in my head on repeat."
The competition began with 13 athletes attempting an initial height of 2.14 meters (7-0.25), progressing through several stages to reach 2.31 meters (7-7). Kosiba cleared early heights smoothly but required two attempts to clear both the 2.24-meter and 2.28-meter marks, ultimately failing to surpass the final height of 2.31 meters.
The gold medal went to Korea's Sanghyeok Woo, who was the only athlete to clear 2.31 meters successfully. New Zealand's Hamish Kerr and Jamaica's Raymond Richards took silver and bronze respectively, each recording only one failed attempt at their final successful mark.
Kosiba concluded his collegiate career by winning an individual title at the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis just prior to this event. Looking ahead, he expressed enthusiasm about pursuing a professional career: "I want to win medals, make a name for myself in this sport and compete against the best when the stakes are highest."
