The Grand Valley State men's tennis team marked the beginning of their GLIAC schedule with a commanding 7-0 victory over Roosevelt on Friday evening. This win at home advances the Lakers to an 8-2 record for the season and 1-0 in conference play.
In doubles, GVSU secured all matches to earn the doubles point. Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez won 6-4 at the top position. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov also achieved a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Denys Zamaraiev and Chimo Minguez added a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
During singles matches, Denys Zamaraiev dominated with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set victory at the top position. Jorge Ruiz overcame his opponent in three sets with scores of 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Patricio Sepulveda secured a straight-set win of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Lawrence Ivanov recorded another decisive win with scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Chimo Minguez triumphed in straight sets with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-1 at No.5 singles, and Stephen Claassen rounded off the victories with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will continue their opening weekend of GLIAC play by hosting Purdue Northwest tomorrow evening at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club, starting at 5:00 PM.
