Properties in the City of Holland must adhere to the Long Grass & Weed Ordinance, enforced annually from April to November. The ordinance stipulates that grass, weeds, or unmaintained yard areas exceeding 8 inches in height are considered a violation. In such cases, the property owner will receive a notice, which is either posted directly on the property or sent via mail for vacant lots.

Once notified, owners or occupants are given a 48-hour window to mow the overgrown lawns. Failure to comply will result in the city's contractor performing the mowing, with the incurred cost billed to the homeowner. The ordinance applies to all property owners, including those with rental properties.

This initiative supports the city’s efforts to maintain neighborhoods that are both attractive and welcoming.
