The City of Holland has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering fair housing within its community. As part of the Lakeshore Fair Housing Advisory Board, the city collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders including city staff, lending professionals, realtors, non-profit leaders, and fair housing experts. This joint effort aims to recognize, advocate for, and mitigate barriers to fair housing.
An integral partner in these initiatives is the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan, with which the city closely works to promote education and awareness. This partnership is emblematic of the city's ongoing commitment to fair housing, which has been a longstanding tradition in Holland.
"Holland was one of the first communities to protect 'source of income,'" a spokesperson noted, exemplifying the city’s pioneering efforts. Furthermore, the recent updates to city code Chapter 25, which now encompasses protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender expression, and gender identity, underscore the city’s dedication to inclusivity.
The Human Relations Department offers several resources on housing, providing crucial support in the ongoing effort to uphold fair housing standards in the community.
