Grand Valley State University's track and field teams are set to participate in competitions at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, Florida, and Ball State's We Fly Challenge in Muncie, Indiana, this weekend. Approximately 70 athletes from the university will showcase their talents in both events over two days.
At the South Florida Invitational, 24 athletes from Grand Valley will compete in various field events. The men's events are scheduled for Friday, April 11, with competitions starting at noon and concluding at 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the women's events are set for Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.
On Friday, 13 male athletes from GVSU will participate in six different events: hammer throw, long jump, pole vault, shot put, high jump, and discus. On Saturday, 11 female athletes will compete in five events: hammer throw, pole vault, shot put, high jump, and discus.
Ball State's We Fly Challenge will see participation from a larger contingent of Grand Valley athletes, who will compete in both track and field events. The competition will include the men's and women's 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Will Gaston will represent GVSU in javelin on Friday at 6 p.m. The following day kicks off at 10 a.m. with the men's long jump, featuring six Lakers. The men's 4x100m relay starts at 11:45 a.m., followed by the women's relay. In the afternoon, four women will partake in the long jump competition.
Beginning at 1:15 p.m., individual running events will feature five Lakers in the men's 110m hurdles and three women in the 100m hurdles. The men's and women's 400m races will commence at 2:05 p.m. and 2:35 p.m., respectively.
In the afternoon events, three Lakers will compete in the men's triple jump, along with separate men's and women's 100m races. Two men and six women will participate in the 400m hurdles, followed by the 200m events. The day's competition will conclude with the men's and women's 4x400m relays at 7:35 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
