GVSU triumphs over Roosevelt University with a 9-3 victory in GLIAC match

Grand Valley State University secured a 9-3 victory over Roosevelt University on Friday at the GVSU Baseball Field. This win brings the Lakers to an overall record of 25-9 and a conference record of 8-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The game initially saw a strong defensive effort from both teams, with no hits recorded in the first three innings. GVSU managed to score the first run in the third due to an error, as Brendan Guciardo reached base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Krstich.

Roosevelt took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs from six hits. However, GVSU responded in the sixth inning with four runs. Ryan Stimac and Caleb Estrada opened with singles, setting the stage for Evan Morrison's triple, which brought in two runs. Jonas Gulbrandsen also contributed with a sacrifice fly, and Ryan Dykstra scored on an Ayden VanEnkevort fielder's choice.

Continuing their momentum, the Lakers added two more runs in the seventh inning. Caden Thelen scored on an Estrada double, followed by Dykstra's single that drove Estrada home. Stimac further extended the lead with a triple in the eighth inning, scoring two additional runs.

Jayden Dentler earned his seventh win of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out six batters over seven innings. Colby Phipps closed the game, achieving his third save with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Key performances included Morrison, who was 1-4 with a triple and two RBIs, as well as Stimac, who went 2-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Estrada also contributed significantly, going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs.
