Grand Valley State's track and field teams are set to participate in three separate competitions over four days across California and Michigan. The events include the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, and the home-based GVSU Al Owens Classic in Allendale.
The Bryan Clay Invitational begins on Wednesday, April 16, where Maria Mitchell and Owen Westerkamp will participate in the 3000m steeplechase. Additional competitors from Grand Valley will join in the 10000m event. The following day features the 800m and 5000m events. Scott Spaanstra, Sam Allen, Lilly Alberts, Megan Postma, and Addison Washler will compete in the 800m, with races starting at 5 p.m. EST. Seven Lakers are slated for the men's and women's 5000m, with open heats commencing at 9:30 p.m. EST. The invitational heats begin later.
The Bryan Clay Invitational concludes on Friday, with Lilly Alberts and Addison Washler running the women's 400m, while Maria Mitchell, Cara Newman, and Klaudia O'Malley will tackle the women's 1500m. Pat Lyell and Owen Westerkamp will represent Grand Valley in the men's 1500m event.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, a number of athletes will compete on both Thursday and Friday after participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational. On Thursday, Maria Mitchell and Owen Westerkamp return to the 3000m steeplechase. Ten athletes who ran in the Bryan Clay 10000m will compete on Thursday night. Friday features only three competitors from the team - Allie Arnsman, Natalie Graber, and Klaudia O'Malley - in the 5000m Invitational.
The GVSU Al Owens Classic predominantly sees Detroit-based Lakers in action. Friday, April 18, focuses on field events such as hammer, javelin, triple jump, and pole vault, whereas Saturday involves shot put, discus, long and high jumps, pole vault, and running events. Kaylee Diamond leads in the high jump with a notable entry height.
Grand Valley State's track and field teams will continue to keep their fans updated with results on their official website and social media.
