Grand Valley State University's track and field team has secured all the GLIAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 21, 2025, marking the second consecutive week of this achievement. Maria Mitchell and Owen Westerkamp were recognized as the women's and men's track athletes of the week, while Kaylee Diamond and Colton Emeott were named the women's and men's field athletes of the week, respectively.
Maria Mitchell, a senior mid-distance runner, was awarded the GLIAC women's outdoor track athlete of the week for her performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. She competed in the 3000m steeplechase and 1500m events, setting personal records in both. She finished second in the steeplechase with a time of 10:12.92, the third-fastest in NCAA Division II, and third in her heat in the 1500m with a time of 4:24.08, placing her 17th in NCAA DII. Her steeplechase time is the second-best in Grand Valley State history, and her 1500m time is ninth.
Owen Westerkamp, a red-shirt freshman mid-distance runner, was named GLIAC men's outdoor track athlete of the week after his performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He recorded personal bests in the 3000m steeplechase and 1500m. Westerkamp finished second in his steeplechase heat with an 8:49.42, ranking him eighth in NCAA DII, and fifth in his 1500m heat with a 3:44.85, ranking 16th in DII. His performances rank second and third in Grand Valley State's history for these events.
Junior-transfer Kaylee Diamond earned the title of GLIAC women's outdoor field athlete of the week for her high jump at the GVSU Al Owens Classic. She cleared 1.73m, ranking her third in the program's history and seventh in NCAA DII.
Colton Emeott was named GLIAC men's outdoor field athlete of the week following his pole vault performance, clearing a season-best 5.01m at the GVSU Classic. He is currently ranked 16th in NCAA DII.
