The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a victory over Purdue Northwest with a 4-2 result in the GLIAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Midland, Michigan. The win enhances the Lakers' record to 15-2 for the season.
During doubles play, Purdue Northwest earned the point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez experienced a 1-6 defeat at the top doubles position, while Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov also recorded a 1-6 loss at No. 2 doubles.
In singles matches, Denys Zamaraiev achieved a victory with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 result at the top position. Victor Lopes claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Jorge Ruiz contributed with a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles, and Patricio Sepulveda secured a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. Lucas Gonzalez faced defeat with a 4-6, 4-6 loss at No. 2 singles.
Grand Valley State will now advance to the GLIAC Championship match where they will challenge Wayne State. The match is set for Sunday morning at 10:00 AM in Midland, Michigan.
