GVSU women's lacrosse ends season with dominant win over SVSU

The GVSU women's lacrosse team concluded their regular season with a decisive 23-1 win against SVSU. With this victory, the team secured a record of 13-3 overall and an unblemished 8-0 in GLIAC play, positioning them well for the upcoming conference tournament.

The Lakers took control right from the start, leading 10-0 in the first quarter. Ashleigh Rothe opened the scoring and also contributed six assists in the quarter. Gracie Bancroft scored three times, while Ainsley Shilling and Zoe Ziegler added two goals each. Leah Leonard and Grace Maddox also scored in the early rout.

In the second quarter, the Lakers added three more goals—by Bancroft, Rothe, and Mara Misiurewicz—giving them a 13-0 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw Bancroft securing her fifth goal of the game, followed by goals from Shilling, Ziegler, Ella Boose, Rothe, Emerson Holthouser, and Leonard. By the end of the third quarter, the Lakers were ahead 20-0.

SVSU got on the board with a free-position goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter. However, GVSU responded with three goals from Boose, Indira Marker, and Ella Manfred, finalizing their victory.

Bancroft's five-goal performance was a career best for her, complemented by two assists. Rothe concluded the game with nine points, scoring three goals and providing six assists. Shilling and Ziegler both achieved hat tricks, with Ziegler adding three assists and Shilling contributing two. Boose and Leonard each scored two goals, while Marker, Misiurewicz, Manfred, Maddox, and Holthouser each recorded one goal. Several players also supported with assists, including Boose, Marker, Manfred, Kendra Swope, Jillian Bingman, and Isabella De La Cerda.

GVSU controlled the draw 19-8, helped by Rothe's five controls, bringing her career total over 200. Shilling and Boose each captured four draws, while Kayleigh Sandell secured three. The team limited SVSU to five shots, with goalkeepers Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause each making a save. Defensively, Leonard caused three turnovers and gathered four groundballs.

The Lakers will now head into postseason play as the top seed for the GLIAC Tournament, which they will host starting Friday with the semifinals.
