GVSU sweeps Upper Iowa in final games of regular season with dominant performance

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) closed out their regular baseball season with a decisive victory against Upper Iowa University. The non-conference games, held in Peru, Illinois, saw GVSU win 17-1 in the first matchup and 9-4 in the second, securing a 3-0 series win. GVSU finishes the season with a 39-10 overall record.

In the first game, Jayden Dentler earned his tenth win of the season, allowing only two hits and one run while striking out four. Brendan Alvord returned to the pitch after more than a year. Collin Bradley, in his stint, allowed two bloop singles and struck out four over two innings.

Highlighting the offensive side, Jonas Gulbrandsen contributed significantly with four hits, including two home runs, five RBI, and three runs. Ryan Dykstra added three RBI with his one hit, while Brendan Guciardo and Nick Krstich both delivered strong performances, with Krstich hitting a home run.

In the second game, Alan Thorington maintained his flawless record, improving to 6-0, after completing five innings with four hits allowed and three strikeouts. Owen Avery started and pitched four innings, allowing five hits and striking out five.

On the offensive front, Gulbrandsen continued his form with three doubles and an RBI in a 3-5 performance, while Dykstra contributed again with a 2-4 performance and three RBI. Jovan Gill and Ryan Stimac also made impactful plays, Gill with two RBI and Stimac with two runs.

Jonas Gulbrandsen's standout day featured six consecutive hits, accumulating six RBI, three doubles, and two home runs. Ryan Dykstra's performance added three more hits and six RBI total for the day.
