The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team is set to contend for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament championship on Sunday. They will face Northern Michigan University in the culminating game of the season. GVSU has already claimed the title of regular season champions and will seek their fifth consecutive tournament victory.
GVSU's path to the final included a 12-9 victory over Davenport University in the semifinals. The Lakers overcame an early 4-0 deficit and another late in the game to secure their spot in the championship. Significant contributions to their win came from Ella Boose, Jillian Bingman, and Gracie Bancroft, each scoring three goals. Kylie Waeghe also played a crucial role with nine draw controls, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers.
In their previous encounters with Northern Michigan this season, GVSU managed two victories, winning a close game 12-11 and later securing an 11-4 win. Goalkeepers Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause were pivotal, making a combined total of 24 saves with a collective .615 save percentage across the two matches. The Lakers have historically been successful against the Wildcats, having won the previous two GLIAC Championship games between the teams.
Northern Michigan reached the championship game after defeating Concordia-St. Paul 9-7. The Wildcats started strong but had to fend off a comeback attempt by the Golden Bears. Josie Lakosky, named GLIAC Attacker of the Year, led her team with four points. Goalkeeper Lauren Esposito was key to the win, playing the full game with 13 saves.
