Grand Valley State University's women's lacrosse team is set to compete in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in its history. The Lakers will face Rockhurst in the first round of the Midwest Regionals on Thursday at Maryville University.

The Lakers, who recently secured the GLIAC Tournament title by defeating Northern Michigan 15-9, have earned a fourth seed in their region. They concluded their regular season with a record of 15-3, marking one of their most successful seasons. "Ella Boose, Quinn McElroy, Ashleigh Rothe, Karleigh Rothe, and Zoe Ziegler all earned All-Tournament team honors for the Lakers," noted a statement from GVSU.

GVSU's defense has been strong this season, ranking fourth nationally in scoring defense and save percentage. Goalkeepers Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause have shared duties effectively, maintaining top positions within their conference statistics. Offensively, six players have scored over 20 goals each this season.

Rockhurst enters the tournament as a five seed under GLVC Coach of the Year Molly McCourt. The Hawks finished with a 13-4 record and are making their first appearance in the Midwest Regional. Freshman Kylee Pickens has been notable for her draw control skills, while Elise Magee leads her team with 51 goals.

The teams did not meet during this season but share several common opponents. In last year's matchup at Rockhurst, GVSU won decisively with a score of 17-4.

Thursday's winner will advance to play top-seeded Maryville on Saturday. The subsequent victor will then face off against another regional pod winner from UIndy.

Fans can follow along via live stats or video through the GLVC Sports Network or on social media @gvsuwlax. Tickets are available for purchase at the venue.
