The Grand Valley State men's golf team is set to compete in the NCAA Regional tournament, beginning Thursday morning. The event will take place at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri, where teams from the Midwest and Central regions will face off over three days.
Representing the Lakers this weekend are Drew Coble, Manuel Cue Vargas, Bryce Wheeler, Murphy Kehoe, and Ryan Gallagher. Charlie Cooley serves as a substitute for GVSU and can replace any player at the start of any round. Notably, Coble holds a national ranking of 12th, while Cue is ranked 25th and Wheeler 84th.
The competition features 20 teams and eight individual players. Among these teams, 11 are ranked within the top 50 nationally. Grand Valley State enters as the second-highest-ranked team at 11th place, with only Central Oklahoma ahead at eighth.
Ryan Gallagher will be the first Laker to begin play on Thursday morning at 8:30 am. The rest of the team will follow every ten minutes thereafter. They are grouped with Central Oklahoma and Missouri S&T for this tournament.
Grand Valley State aims to reach the National Championships for what would be their 11th appearance in program history and their fourth consecutive time advancing. The Lakers have previously secured one regional title during the 2023 season.
