The Michigan House of Representatives has passed a bill proposed by Representative Slagh aimed at ensuring hunting and fishing regulations remain unchanged during the season. This legislation is designed to prevent confusion among sportsmen who may inadvertently violate mid-season changes in the law.

Representative Slagh noted that the idea for this legislative measure originated from one of his constituents. "Under current law, sportsmen can get caught in a sticky situation if they aren’t aware of a mid-season change in law and break it without even realizing it," Slagh explained.

House Bill 4029 mandates that any hunting and trapping orders issued by the Natural Resources Commission must be adopted by June 1 to take effect in the same season. Additionally, these orders are to be published in the annual hunting, fishing, and trapping guide handbooks.

Slagh described his proposal as "a commonsense solution to an avoidable problem." The bill received significant bipartisan support in the House and will now proceed to the state Senate for consideration.
