State Representative Nancy DeBoer and Senator Roger Victory have acknowledged the Veldheer Tulip Gardens for its 75th anniversary. The tribute was presented to Vern Veldheer, the owner of the gardens, along with an American flag from the State Capitol.
“Veldheer Tulip Gardens is a beloved Holland treasure that has brought joy to countless Michiganders,” said DeBoer. She noted that the gardens started in 1950 with just 100 red tulips and 300 white tulips and now showcase over 5.5 million tulips annually. “For 75 years, this family-run farm has showcased the beauty of our community and state.”
The gardens remain a vital part of Holland's community, featuring not only millions of tulips but also thousands of Dutch lilies, daylilies, peonies, and other rare perennials. These are set among windmills, drawbridges, and scenic canals that reflect Holland’s heritage.
“Vern is also a proud World War II U.S. Army veteran,” added DeBoer. “His service to our country, along with his enduring dedication to the Holland community, is truly inspiring. I am honored to present this tribute in recognition of his remarkable 99-year legacy.”
