Due to high temperatures forecasted for the week, Gateway Mission has announced the opening of emergency cooling centers in Holland. The centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting Monday, July 28, through Wednesday, July 30.
The Gateway Men’s Center at 166 S River and the Gateway Women and Children’s Center at 356 Fairbanks Ave will be available for unsheltered individuals and families seeking relief from the heat. Both facilities can be contacted at their respective phone numbers: 616-928-3413 for the Men’s Center and 616-928-3469 for the Women and Children’s Center.
A spokesperson stated, “Gateway Mission will offer Emergency Cooling Centers from 8 AM to 8 PM, beginning on Monday, July 28.”
Individuals needing overnight shelter during this period are also encouraged to check in at Gateway Mission due to hazardous conditions caused by excessive heat.
The National Weather Service has issued advisories when heat indices are expected to reach or exceed dangerous levels. Local authorities recommend residents take precautions during such periods and utilize available resources like cooling centers.
