State Representative Nancy DeBoer (R-Holland) has voted in favor of Michigan’s final budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The approved plan includes tax relief measures, increased funding for education, allocations for school safety and mental health, and additional resources to improve state infrastructure.

“This budget reflects the priorities of the people of Michigan,” said DeBoer. “We are delivering tax relief for families, making record high funding to our classrooms, restoring critical funding to keep our students safe, and ensuring that the money people pay at the pump actually goes toward fixing our roads. Most importantly, this budget is responsible, transparent, and puts Michigan taxpayers first.”

The budget introduces several key provisions. State taxes on tips and overtime pay will be eliminated, allowing workers to retain more of their earnings. An additional $2 billion is allocated for road funding to ensure gas tax revenues are used directly for road and bridge repairs. The process for allocating earmarks has been made fully transparent; all projects underwent public hearings and for-profit entities were excluded from receiving these funds.

For education, per-student funding will increase by $442 from last year to reach $10,050 per student. This amount applies equally to both traditional schools and cyber schools. Funding for school safety and mental health has also been restored with a total of $321 million set aside for both public and private institutions.

“We worked hard to make sure this budget puts the needs of people first,” DeBoer stated. “This is about building stronger schools, safer communities, and a brighter future for Michigan.”
