The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team, ranked fifth nationally, secured a 1-0 victory over Davenport on Friday evening at the GVSU Soccer Field. The win brings the Lakers' season record to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

During a scoreless first half, Grand Valley State outshot Davenport 9-5 and had three shots on goal compared to two for the Panthers. Davenport earned two corner kicks in the final moments of the half, while GVSU did not have any.

The game's only goal came in the 65th minute following a set piece after a foul by Davenport. Sophia Morgan delivered a free kick into the box, which Mackenzie Ford headed toward the right post. Kacy Lauer reached out to direct the ball past Davenport's goalkeeper, marking her fifth goal of the season. Ford and Morgan were credited with assists.

Goalkeeper Macie Hunter made two saves in the last ten seconds of play, including one critical stop that preserved the shutout for Grand Valley State. This marked Hunter’s eighth shutout of the season and her highest save total this year with four.

Grand Valley State finished with a 20-13 advantage in shots and led 6-4 in shots on goal. The Panthers recorded four corner kicks to GVSU’s two. Alli French led GVSU with three shots—two on target—while Ivy Wilhelm also took three shots. Mackenzie Ford, Acadia Murphy, and Kacy Lauer played all ninety minutes.

The Lakers will conclude their week by hosting Purdue Northwest on Sunday, November 2nd at 1:00 p.m., followed by a ceremony honoring their five seniors after the game. The match will be streamed live on FloCollege.
