City of Grand Haven issued the following announcement on Oct 20.
Kelly Beattie of Dundee, Michigan, was appointed City Clerk by the Grand Haven City Council at their Council meeting on October 18. The City Clerk administers elections for the City, performs recordkeeping for Council, and maintains all official City records and documents. The Clerk’s office is often the first point of contact for the City.
Beattie started as a historic interpreter at Mackinac Island, archivist for the Ypsilanti Historical Society, and then began his public service career in the City of Ann Arbor Clerk’s Office. While with Ann Arbor, Beattie had extensive experience with voter registration, election administration, civic engagement, and record keeping. Most recently, Beattie served as the Executive Director at Fort Meigs, a historic War of 1812 battlefield in Ohio.
Beattie earned his associates from Grand Rapids Community College, Bachelor of Science in History from Central Michigan University, and Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Eastern Michigan University. He is a Certified Municipal Clerk, with Election Official Accreditation and Election Trainer Certification.
Beattie will start on November 22 and take the place of Linda Browand, who has served as Clerk since 2008 and is retiring in December. The public is invited to Browand’s retirement open house to be held on November 30 from 2-4pm at the Grand Haven Community Center.
