The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) men's golf team is set to compete in the Midwest/Central Super Regional this week in Edmond, Oklahoma. The tournament will be held from Thursday to Saturday at the Kickingbird Golf Course.
The competition spans three days, with each team playing one round per day. By the end of the event, the top five teams will qualify for the National Championships scheduled in Florida from May 21st to 25th. Additionally, the top two individual players from non-advancing teams will also secure a spot at Nationals.
GVSU enters as defending champions, having won last year's Super Regional by an impressive margin of 18 strokes. Drew Coble and Nick Krueger both tied for second place last year with scores of one under par. This season, GVSU has claimed victory in six events, including three during spring play.
Representing GVSU this week are golfers Drew Coble, Nick Krueger, Manuel Cue Vargas, Bryce Wheeler, and Andrew Gwilliams. Collectively, these athletes have achieved five victories this season; Coble has won three events while Krueger and Wheeler have each secured one win.
The tournament features four teams ranked within the top 25 nationally. GVSU holds the highest rank among them at number three. Henderson State follows at 16th place, with host Central Oklahoma ranked 17th and Missouri S&T positioned at 25th. On day one of the tournament, GVSU is paired with Central Oklahoma and UIndy and is scheduled to tee off at 10:42 CST.
