Grand Valley State University's baseball team faced Purdue Northwest in a doubleheader on Saturday, resulting in a split outcome at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers secured a victory in the first game with a score of 9-3 but fell short in the second game, losing 12-11 after ten innings. The series will conclude on Sunday with a single nine-inning match scheduled to start at noon.

In the first game, Purdue Northwest took an early lead by scoring in the top of the first inning. However, GVSU quickly responded with two runs. Ryan Dykstra and Kyle Nott reached base, allowing Dykstra to score on Connor Schuman's fielder's choice and Nott to score on Nathan Logan's sacrifice fly. Ayden VanEnkevort contributed an RBI single that brought MacArthur Graybill home after he opened the second inning with a single.

GVSU added more runs in subsequent innings. Schuman scored again on another sac fly by Logan, followed by Brendan Guciardo doubling with two outs before McCormack's RBI double extended their lead. Logan hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, increasing their advantage to 6-2. In the sixth inning, Dykstra was hit by a pitch and Nott doubled him home before scoring himself on a wild pitch. Guciardo then doubled Logan home after he walked.

Senior pitcher Sam Leck improved his record to 2-1 with this win, giving up only one earned run over five hits while striking out five batters. Allan Thorington provided relief for three innings and earned a save, allowing one run on two hits and striking out seven batters.

Catcher Brendan Guciardo had an impressive performance going 4-for-4 with three doubles, ranking second all-time for doubles in a game for GVSU. Logan drove four runs while Dykstra scored twice from his two hits.

The second game began well for Grand Valley State as Kyle Nott capitalized on defensive errors from Purdue Northwest to score early. However, PNW rallied back by scoring six unearned runs during their fourth-inning turn at-bat along with additional scores taking them ahead 8-3 through five innings played.

Despite trailing behind later into playtime (11–6), persistent efforts saw comeback attempts led primarily through key contributions like those made when loading bases late within both ninth & tenth innings respectively yet ultimately failing due largely towards final fielding error circumstances costing dearly against opposing side momentum gains accrued earlier throughout entirety duration
