Grand Valley State University (GVSU) emerged victorious in a doubleheader against Davenport University on Saturday at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers secured a 9-5 win in the first game and clinched the second game 5-4 with a walk-off victory in extra innings. The series will conclude on Sunday, May 5, with a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m., preceded by a ceremony honoring 12 seniors.

In the second game, GVSU and Davenport were tied four times, exchanging leads three times throughout the match. Jonas Gulbrandsen of GVSU initiated scoring with a double, followed by Connor Schuman's single that brought him home. Despite Davenport's attempts to gain an advantage with solo home runs in later innings, Nate Logan hit a crucial home run for GVSU to tie the score again.

The Panthers briefly led in the top of the tenth inning before MacArthur Graybill and Connor McCormick reached base for GVSU. Jake Rydquist loaded the bases due to an error after his sacrifice bunt attempt. Justin Mansager scored as VanEnkevort walked, and Ryan Stimak sealed the victory with Ryan Dykstra's single.

Logan achieved three hits, including a home run and triple, while Schuman contributed two RBIs. Will Goebel earned credit for securing one out during relief pitching.

In Game 1, Davenport initially led with three runs but was overtaken by GVSU after Brendan Guciardo scored from Jake Rydquist’s single. Ayden VanEnkevort also drove in Logan Anderson for another run. Schuman's two-run double helped take control back from Davenport after they regained a brief lead.

Mike Morawski took charge on the mound for six innings despite allowing five runs; Logan Wynalda delivered effective relief pitching thereafter. VanEnkevort joined Schuman and Rydquist each contributing significantly through hits and RBIs.
