Grand Valley State University (GVSU) secured a 9-7 victory against Purdue Northwest at the GVSU Baseball Field, concluding their season series with a 4-2 record. Over the weekend, the Lakers achieved a 3-1 result against the Pride.
The Lakers made an impressive start by scoring five runs in the second inning. Jonas Gulbrandsen initiated the inning with a single, followed by Connor McCormack's double. Gulbrandsen scored on a groundout, and McCormack advanced home on a wild pitch. Ayden VanEnkevort walked, Ryan Dykstra singled to center field, and Kyle Nott hit a single to right center, allowing VanEnkevort to score. Nott stole second base and later scored when Schuman hit a sacrifice fly. A balk enabled Nott to complete the inning.
Purdue Northwest responded with four runs in the third inning and equalized at 5-5 in the fourth inning. GVSU regained their lead with two runs in their half of the fourth when VanEnkevort singled, followed by another single from Nott to right center. A throwing error allowed VanEnkevort to score, while Logan's single brought Nott home.
In the fifth inning, GVSU added another run as Gulbrandsen doubled and then scored thanks to Jake Rydquist's single to left field.
The Pride narrowed their deficit by scoring twice in the sixth inning but remained behind as GVSU added an insurance run in the eighth when Nott singled and scored from first on Connor Schuman's double.
Rile secured the win for GVSU after inducing a game-ending double play with runners on first and third bases. He gave up three runs while striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings from the bullpen.
Nott had an outstanding performance going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored; Schuman contributed by going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs; Rydquist was 1-for-4 adding two RBIs; McCormack went 2-for-4 hitting one double alongside one run scored; Gulbrandsen ended his day at bat going 3-for-4 including his career’s hundredth hit—a double—and contributing two runs; Dykstra went 2-for-5 crossing home plate once; Logan finished off batting figures at—going—2-for-five along side registering one RBI contribution whilst finally VanEnkevort rounded off proceedings recording stats showing him being involved via singularly managing—to acquire hits upon just only singular attempt which resulted towards final scoreboard representation depicting twice crossing occasion successively within same match instance alone itself!
