The GVSU women's lacrosse team has once again dominated the GLIAC weekly awards, marking their fifth sweep of the season. Maddy Champagne was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Kaylyn Cater received honors as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Maddy Champagne, a senior attacker for GVSU, earned her second GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week title this season. During two victories for the Lakers, she contributed significantly with nine points, scoring five goals and providing four assists. Her performance included two goals and two assists in an 18-4 win over Concordia-St. Paul, followed by three goals and two assists during a Senior Day victory against Northern Michigan. Additionally, Champagne achieved eight groundballs and eight draw controls, celebrating her 100th career groundball on Sunday. She currently leads GVSU with 48 points this season, comprising 39 goals and nine assists.
Kaylyn Cater received her first career recognition as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Over the weekend's matches, Cater secured two wins with 15 saves and allowed only six goals. On Friday, she achieved a season-high eight saves and added seven more on Sunday along with a groundball, restricting NMU to just two goals. This season, Cater has accumulated 62 saves and holds a national leading average of 4.69 goals against per game while securing 11 wins. Under her defense, the Lakers have not conceded double-digit goals this season.
