Lakers aim for fourth consecutive GLIAC title against Northern Michigan

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team is set to face Northern Michigan University (NMU) in the GLIAC Tournament Championship on Sunday. The Lakers are aiming for their fourth consecutive GLIAC title and eighth overall.

The Lakers secured their spot in the championship with a decisive 16-4 win over Davenport in the semifinals. Leading at halftime with an 8-1 advantage, GVSU maintained control throughout the game. Maddy Champagne scored six goals, while Sydney Stone added four. Defensively, the Lakers forced 12 turnovers from Davenport, and goalkeeper Kaylyn Cater made two saves.

Earlier this season, GVSU defeated NMU twice. In Houghton, they claimed a 17-6 victory with Champagne scoring five goals and Hailey Crittenden adding four. Cater recorded six saves as GVSU collected 19 groundballs. In Allendale, the Lakers won again, limiting NMU to just 11 shots and forcing 18 turnovers. Stone scored four goals and Champagne achieved a hat trick as Cater made seven saves.

Northern Michigan reached Sunday's final by defeating Concordia-St. Paul 15-6 in their semifinal match. Josie Lakosy and Minnie Bittell each contributed five goals for NMU's offense, while goalkeeper Lauren Esposito made 11 saves to strengthen their defense. NMU has improved to a 14-4 record this season and has won five of its last six games.
