The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the recipients of its Winter Commissioner's Award, with four athletes from Grand Valley State University being recognized. Track and field competitors Myles Kerner, Erika Beistle, Caleb Futter, and women's basketball player Rylie Bisballe were honored for their performances during the 2023-2024 winter season.
Myles Kerner achieved significant success in indoor track and field, securing the title of 2024 Indoor National Champion in men's shot put with a throw of 19.31 meters. He also placed 14th in men's weight throw at the Indoor Nationals and led his team to a National Runner-Up finish. Kerner's achievements earned him First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Region honors. Academically, he maintained a 3.9 GPA.
Erika Beistle excelled in women's shot put, winning the 2024 Indoor National Championship with a throw of 16.37 meters. She contributed to her team's fourth-place finish at Nationals and helped secure their 25th consecutive Indoor GLIAC Championship. Beistle was named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Year and maintained a 3.75 GPA.
Caleb Futter claimed an individual National Championship in the men's mile with a time of 4:18.02 and anchored his team to a fourth-place finish in men's DMR at Nationals. He was awarded GLIAC Track Athlete of the Year as well as Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year honors, while also achieving academic excellence with a 3.8 GPA.
Rylie Bisballe had an outstanding season in women's basketball, earning several accolades including D2CCA and WBCA Honorable Mention All-American honors, GLIAC Player of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year awards. She ranked among the top five players in points and rebounds within GLIAC and was recognized for her academic performance as well.
