The Grand Valley State softball team has secured a spot in the GLIAC Championship game after defeating Saginaw Valley State with a narrow 1-0 victory. The match took place on Saturday, May 4, in Rosemont, Illinois, and marked the Lakers' 35th win of the season.

The decisive moment came in the fourth inning when Morgan Spicer drew a walk to lead off. Kelsey Komorous followed with a double to right field, allowing Spicer to score from first base. This hit marked Komorous's 55th RBI of the season, leading the GLIAC.

Genesis Eggart delivered an outstanding performance for the Lakers by pitching her fourth shutout of the season. She completed all seven innings without conceding any runs, allowing only two hits and striking out five batters. Eggart's record improved to 12-6 this season and she remains undefeated in the GLIAC tournament at 2-0.

Kelsey Komorous was instrumental for the Lakers with both a hit and an RBI. Morgan Spicer contributed by scoring the game's sole run following her walk. MaryJane Goodman and Eliana Eiland also added hits during the game.

With this victory, the Lakers move forward to compete in the GLIAC championship game scheduled for Sunday, May 5, at noon Eastern Time. They need just one more win to claim the championship title but must be defeated twice by their opponent to lose it. The championship game will be available for streaming on FloSports, with live updates provided through @GVSUSoftball on social media.
