The Grand Valley State softball team played a doubleheader against Parkside on Tuesday, resulting in a split. The Lakers lost the first game 8-0 but rebounded to win the second game 14-6 after eight innings.
In the second game, Jasmine Mauk was instrumental for the Lakers, hitting her first collegiate home run in the second inning. Parkside responded with a solo home run, narrowing the gap to 2-1. The Rangers tied the game at two in the third inning with an RBI double.
Mauk hit another home run in the fourth inning, putting GVSU ahead 4-2. However, Parkside tied it again with a two-run homer. In the fifth inning, Carsyn Segorski's sacrifice fly brought Morgan Spicer home, giving GVSU a brief lead before Parkside went ahead 6-5.
Jenna Ballard's double in the sixth inning tied the game once more. The match went into extra innings where GVSU scored eight runs in the eighth inning. Eliana Eiland drove in what became the winning run with a single to left field. Kelsey Komorous further widened the lead with a three-run double.
Hannah Hollister and Megan Koenigshof both had strong performances at bat, each going 3-for-5. Mauk ended with two home runs and four RBIs. Komorous contributed three RBIs as well.
In contrast, Parkside dominated game one of the day’s doubleheader, winning decisively 8-0 within five innings. Liberti Fair managed two hits for GVSU during this match.
The Lakers are set to continue their road games on Thursday against Saginaw Valley State for another GLIAC doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM. Both games will be available for streaming on FloSports.
