The Grand Valley State softball team secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ohio Dominican in the NCAA Midwest Regionals, held at Trevecca Nazarene's campus. This win marked the beginning of their NCAA Tournament play and improved their season record to 36-16.
Genesis Eggart was instrumental in this triumph, achieving her first career no-hitter, which is also the 32nd in the program's history. She follows Ashley Platek, who threw a no-hitter earlier this season on March 8 against California (Pa.).
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning when Morgan Spicer doubled to left center and advanced to third on an infield single by Kelsey Komorous. Jenna Ballard then singled down the left field line, bringing home Spicer for what would be the game-winning run.
Eggart's performance included nine strikeouts and just two walks, improving her record to 13-7 for the season. In addition to Eggart's pitching prowess, Liberti Fair contributed by batting 2-3, while Morgan Spicer went 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Jenna Ballard drove in the crucial run, and Hannah Hollister added a hit and walk.
With this victory, the Lakers advance to face Trevecca Nazarene tomorrow at noon Eastern Time. The game will be available for streaming on the NCAA website. Fans can visit gvsulakers.com for live stats and video links or follow @GVSUSoftball on Twitter for updates throughout the tournament.
