Grand Valley State prepares for key home games against Parkside and Purdue Northwest

Grand Valley State University's men's basketball team is set to return home for two significant games this weekend after a series of away matches. The Lakers will face Parkside on Thursday, January 23, at 8:00 PM during the 616 Night event and Purdue Northwest on Saturday, January 25, at 3:00 PM for Sawyers Day.

The Lakers currently hold an even record of 8-8 overall and are tied in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with a 4-4 standing. They recently secured consecutive victories against Davenport and Roosevelt, with scores of 62-60 and 76-70 respectively. Kaden Brown emerged as the top scorer in both matches, contributing 21 points against Davenport and an impressive 30 points against Roosevelt. Additionally, Trevor Smith Jr. achieved a personal best by providing eight assists in the game against Roosevelt.

The team's performance statistics show they are averaging 76 points per game with a shooting accuracy of 44% from the field. They rank fourth in GLIAC for three-point shooting at a rate of 37%. Key player Kaden Brown leads GVSU's scoring efforts with an average of 14.4 points per game and has successfully made 44 three-pointers this season at a rate of 41%. William Dunn follows closely behind with an average of 12.1 points per game and leads in rebounds with an average of six per match.

Parkside arrives for the weekend games on a winning streak after defeating #4 Ferris State and #6 Lake Superior State among others. They share the same overall record as GVSU but have one more win within conference play, standing at five wins to three losses in GLIAC contests.

Purdue Northwest faces challenges this season with only three wins out of sixteen games played so far without any victories within their conference matchups.
