Trevor Smith Jr. has been recognized as the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, marking his first such accolade this season, according to an announcement from the league office today.
Smith Jr. contributed significantly to the Lakers' perfect 3-0 record last week. In a game against Roosevelt last Monday, he achieved a personal best with eight assists and three steals. Against Parkside, he recorded four steals and scored 14 points, aiding in forcing Parkside into 16 turnovers. During a victory over Purdue Northwest, Smith Jr. scored a career-high 18 points on 8-10 shooting, along with four rebounds and two blocked shots.
Currently, Smith Jr. leads Grand Valley State University (GVSU) with 26 total steals this season and ranks fourth in blocks with nine.
GVSU is set to travel to the Upper Peninsula for upcoming games against Northern Michigan on Thursday and Michigan Tech on Saturday.
