Lakers suffer defeat against Northern Michigan in Thursday matchup

The Grand Valley State men's basketball team experienced a defeat against Northern Michigan, losing 79-52 in Marquette, Michigan. This loss brings the Lakers' season record to 10-9 and their GLIAC standing to 6-5.

Charles Turner was the leading scorer for the Lakers with 12 points, hitting three out of four attempts from beyond the arc. William Dunn contributed 11 points and led the team with seven rebounds. Jalen Charity added eight points and six rebounds, shooting four out of seven from the field. Trevor Smith Jr. also contributed with seven points, two rebounds, and two assists.

Northern Michigan's Dylan Kuehl led his team with 21 points and nine rebounds, making nine of his nineteen field goal attempts. Jackson Dudek followed closely with 16 points and nine rebounds, successfully converting seven out of nine shots from the field including two three-pointers. Julien Smith added 14 points while Gerald Gittens scored ten for the Wildcats.

Grand Valley State shot at a rate of 30% from the field and made seven three-pointers during the game. In contrast, Northern Michigan achieved a shooting percentage of 48% along with eight successful three-point shots. The Wildcats also had an advantage on the boards, outrebounding Grand Valley State by a margin of 46-32 overall and securing more offensive rebounds by a count of 12-10. Notably, Grand Valley State managed to score more bench points than Northern Michigan by a tally of 24 to 10.

Looking ahead, Grand Valley State will conclude their weekend schedule in Houghton, Michigan where they are set to face off against Michigan Tech on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Fans can catch this game live through streaming on FloSports or listen via Thunder Country 107.3.
