The Grand Valley State men's basketball team faced a setback with an 81-66 loss against Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon. This result leaves the Lakers with a balanced record of 10-10 for the season and 6-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Jalen Charity was the top scorer for GVSU, contributing 13 points from 5 out of 10 attempts. Kaden Brown added to the effort with 12 points, including three successful three-pointers and two steals. William Dunn scored 10 points and secured three rebounds, while Trevor Smith Jr. chipped in nine points along with two blocks.
Michigan Tech's performance was spearheaded by Marcus Tomashek, who delivered an impressive game with 24 points and five assists, complemented by three three-pointers. Dawson Nordgaard contributed significantly with 14 points and three rebounds on nearly perfect shooting accuracy. Adam Hobson also made his mark with 13 points and six rebounds.
Statistically, GVSU achieved a field goal percentage of 43% and matched Michigan Tech's three-point percentage at 36%. The Huskies had a slight edge in rebounding, leading the Lakers both overall (36-28) and offensively (10-7). They also dominated inside scoring, outscoring GVSU in the paint by six points.
Looking ahead, GVSU will be back on their home court next weekend to face off against two nationally ranked teams. They are set to play #11 Lake Superior State on Thursday evening followed by a match against #15 Ferris State on Saturday afternoon. Both games will be available for streaming on FloSports and broadcast live on Thunder Country 107.3.
