The Grand Valley State men's basketball team secured a decisive victory against No. 16 Ferris State with a final score of 94-62 on Saturday afternoon in Allendale. This win improves GVSU's record to 12-10 overall and 8-6 in the GLIAC, marking their second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent.

Trevor Smith Jr. led the scoring for the Lakers with 17 points, achieving an impressive shooting performance of 7-10 from the field and perfect accuracy from beyond the arc at 3-3. He also contributed three rebounds and three assists. Kaden Brown added 15 points, hitting two three-pointers and collecting four rebounds. Jalen Charity scored 14 points and recorded three steals while shooting efficiently from long range. Cam Regnerus matched his career high with ten points, along with seven rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.

The Lakers effectively limited all Ferris State players to single-digit scoring figures while maintaining a shooting percentage of 46% from the field and 42% from three-point range. In contrast, Ferris State managed only 31% shooting overall and hit just 28% of their shots from beyond the arc. GVSU also controlled the boards by outrebounding Ferris State significantly, securing a total of 50 rebounds compared to Ferris State's 35.

GVSU established an early lead they never relinquished, beginning with back-to-back three-pointers by William Dunn and Smith Jr., resulting in an initial advantage that forced Ferris State into an early timeout within just two minutes of play. The Lakers extended their lead into double digits shortly thereafter.

In addition to maintaining control throughout the game, GVSU executed an effective defensive strategy that kept them ahead by more than twenty points for most of the second half. A late-game surge saw them reach their largest lead—a margin of thirty-five points—thanks to Marcus Gray II's three-pointer near the end.

Next week, GVSU will take to the road for games against Purdue Northwest on Thursday evening and Parkside in Kenosha on Saturday afternoon. Fans can watch both games live via FloSports or listen on Thunder Country radio station.
