The Grand Valley State men's basketball team experienced a setback with an 80-72 loss to Parkside on Saturday afternoon. This defeat leaves the Lakers with a season record of 13-11 and a conference record of 9-7 in the GLIAC.
Jalen Charity led the Lakers with a career-high 20 points, shooting 8-11 from the field, and contributed four rebounds. Kaden Brown added 14 points, hitting four out of eight three-point attempts, alongside three rebounds and two assists. Williams Dunn scored 12 points and secured eight rebounds on 6-10 shooting. Cam Regnerus achieved his first career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds on perfect shooting.
Parkside's performance was spearheaded by Jack Rose, who scored 23 points and made four out of eight shots from beyond the arc. Nick Brown contributed with 19 points and seven rebounds, making five three-pointers on his way to going 7-12 from the field. Josiah Palmer also scored 19 points while distributing seven assists and successfully converting eight out of ten free throws.
Grand Valley State shot at a rate of 46% from the field and managed to hit only 30% from three-point range. In contrast, Parkside shot slightly lower at 45% but excelled in three-point shooting with a success rate of 41%, making fourteen shots from long distance. The Lakers did manage to outperform Parkside in rebounding with a slight edge at 34-31; both teams collected nine offensive boards each. GVSU also dominated in paint scoring with a margin of outscoring Parkside by more than double.
