The Grand Valley State men's basketball team is set to face Davenport in a crosstown showdown on Tuesday, February 25. The game will take place at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena with tipoff scheduled for 8:00 PM. Fans can watch the match live on FloSports and WXSP-TV.
GVSU heads into the final week of their regular season with a record of 14-10 overall and 10-8 in conference play. They are currently tied for sixth place in the GLIAC standings, trailing two games behind fourth place, which would secure them a spot to host in the quarterfinal round.
Last weekend, GVSU split their homestand, losing narrowly to Wayne State with a score of 67-66 before securing a win against Saginaw Valley State at 76-68. Jalen Charity led the scoring for GVSU in both matches, recording 18 points against Wayne State and contributing 15 points in the victory over SVSU. Charity has been consistent, reaching double figures in his last five consecutive games.
Kaden Brown remains GVSU's top scorer with an average of 13.3 points per game on 38% shooting from the field. Brown ranks fourth in the GLIAC for three-pointers made, totaling 71, and leads with a shooting percentage of 39% from beyond the arc. William Dunn contributes an average of 11.1 points and leads the Lakers with an average of 5.8 rebounds per game.
In their previous encounter this season, GVSU emerged victorious over Davenport with a close scoreline of 62-60 after making a comeback run towards the end of the game. Kaden Brown was instrumental during that match-up as well, scoring 21 points including four three-pointers out of eight attempts.
Davenport enters Tuesday’s contest holding an overall record of 5-21 and stands at just one win against seventeen losses within conference play (GLIAC). The Panthers have been struggling recently with fourteen consecutive defeats since their last win on January 4th against Michigan Tech.
