In Allendale, Michigan, the NCAA Midwest Regional is set to begin with the GVSU women's basketball team facing Quincy in the opening round. The game is scheduled for Friday night at 5:00 PM.

The Lakers, having secured their third consecutive GLIAC Tournament title by defeating Ferris State 79-48, are entering the tournament as the top seed in the region. Rylie Bisballe led with a double-double performance of 15 points and 12 rebounds during that victory. Abrie Cabana contributed 14 points, while MacKenzie Bisballe added 10 points. Nicole Kamin, named Tournament MVP, scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.

This marks GVSU's tenth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, boasting a record of advancing past the first round in seven of those occasions. Currently ranked number two nationally with a record of 32-2, they come into this matchup on a seven-game winning streak.

Earlier this season, GVSU played against Quincy during a road trip where Rylie Bisballe's crucial shot before halftime gave them a lead they maintained throughout the game. Bisballe scored 21 points and collected five rebounds during that encounter. Despite Quincy's rebounding advantage at 38-31 over GVSU, it was not enough to secure a win against them.

Since their previous meeting with GVSU in December, Quincy has improved significantly with an 18-3 run over their last 21 games. They have won four straight games to claim the GLVC Tournament title and enter this tournament as an eight seed. Courtney Boyd received recognition as GLVC Coach of the Year after leading Quincy to a surprising season finish at 25-7.

Quincy’s key player Nicole McDermott leads her team with averages of 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She is supported by Cymirah Williams who averages nine rebounds per game and Marian Blass who contributes over eleven points per contest.

This event marks Quincy's return to tournament play since their last appearance in 2016.
