The GVSU women's basketball team is set to face Pittsburg State in the Final Four on Wednesday night at 8:30. This marks the second time in four seasons that GVSU has reached this stage, having advanced through the Elite Eight. The game will determine which team will compete in Friday night's National Championship.
In their previous matchup, GVSU played a strong defensive game against Gannon, leading 22-18 at halftime and ultimately winning 60-32. Rylie Bisballe was a standout performer with her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and achieving a season-high of 14 rebounds. MacKenzie Bisballe contributed nine points.
GVSU has faced five ranked opponents this season and emerged victorious each time, outscoring them by an average of 68.8 to 47.2. Under coach Mike Williams, this is the third time the Lakers have reached the Final Four since his tenure began in the 2015-16 season.
Pittsburg State secured their place in the Final Four for the first time in program history by defeating Lubbock Christian with a score of 66-55. They won both the MIAA regular season and tournament titles and are known for having one of the most efficient offenses nationally, scoring an average of 80.4 points per game.
Despite losing one of their top players to injury during regionals, Pittsburg State still features strong performances from Karenna Gerber and Grace Pyle who combined for an average of 33.5 points per game over the season.
Wednesday's game will be available for streaming on ESPN+, with additional coverage through live stats and radio broadcasts on The Ticket (106.1 FM/1340 AM), Thunder Country (107.3 FM), or WLCS (98.3).
