The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over Ferris State on Friday afternoon. This result brings the Lakers' season record to 10-2, with a 3-0 standing in the GLIAC.
Despite Ferris State winning all doubles matches to secure the doubles point, Grand Valley State turned the game around during the singles matches. Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez lost 5-7 in the top doubles match. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov also faced a 5-7 defeat at No. 2 doubles, and Denys Zamaraiev and Chimo Minguez were edged out 4-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Denys Zamaraiev achieved a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the top singles position. Victor Lopes won 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles. Jorge Ruiz secured a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, while Patricio Sepulveda won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Lawrence Ivanov added a victory with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 score at No. 6 singles. Lucas Gonzalez, however, lost 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 in a three-set match at No. 2 singles.
The Lakers will end the weekend with a match against Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan, with play starting at 10:00 AM.
