The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) track and field teams have concluded their three-day, four-meet competition weekend, recording personal bests, claiming two NCAA Division II top spots, and breaking a school record.
At the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, freshman Michael Griffey and Shelby Ulven excelled in the hammer throw. Ulven won the women's event with a throw of 59.64m, ranking third in NCAA DII. Heidi Newhouse and Alexis Weber tied for eighth in the women's high jump with personal bests, ranking 15th in NCAA DII. The men's 4x100m relay team achieved the third-fastest finish in GVSU history.
A noteworthy performance came from Brooke Barkocy, who secured the fourth spot in NCAA DII for the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.00. In the 400m event, Myles Rhodes updated his own record with a personal best time of 46.37, while Zach Pray also set a personal best, becoming the fifth fastest in GVSU history.
At the Texas Relays, Erika Beistle and Andrew Berryhill competed in the shot put, though both athletes fouled out.
In the Raleigh Relays, GVSU's women in the 800m event saw Lilly Alberts finishing with a personal best. The men's 800m saw Pat Lyell, Sam Allen, Quinton Bauer, and Scott Spaanstra finishing closely. GVSU's women's 4x400m relay team ranked fourth in their heat.
