The Grand Valley State men's tennis team finished their weekend with a victory over Wayne State, securing a ranked 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon. Following this win, the Lakers improve their season record to 11-2 and remain undefeated in the GLIAC with a 4-0 standing.
In doubles play, Grand Valley State succeeded in clinching the point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Lucas Gonzalez and Victor Lopes achieved a 7-6 victory at the top doubles spot, while Denys Zamaraiev and Chimo Minguez posted a 6-3 win at the third position. However, Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov experienced a 2-6 defeat at No. 2 doubles.
During singles matches, Denys Zamaraiev attained a three-set victory with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 at the top position. Victor Lopes also secured a win at No. 3 singles, finishing 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Jorge Ruiz had a straight-set win, scoring 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Lucas Gonzalez faced a narrow defeat with scores of 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 at No. 2 singles. Patricio Sepulveda was defeated 3-6, 4-6 at No. 5 singles, and Lawrence Ivanov similarly lost 3-6, 4-6 at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will play their next matches at home, welcoming Lake Superior State on Friday, April 11 at 12:00 PM, followed by Michigan Tech on Saturday, April 12 at 5:00 PM. Both matches will be held at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
