Grand Valley State sweeps series with a 9-6 win over Roosevelt

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) secured a four-game series sweep over Roosevelt, winning 9-6 in their latest Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match on Sunday, April 13th. With this victory, the Lakers' overall record improves to 28-9, with an 11-5 record in the GLIAC. They are set to play against Northwood on Tuesday, April 15th, with a game scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Lakers displayed a strong performance from the start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Ryan Dykstra, the left fielder, began the inning with a single and scored on a two-run homer by first baseman Jonas Gulbrandsen. Designated hitter Brendan Guciardo doubled and was driven in by center fielder Caden Thelen's single. Third baseman Caden Estrada added another run with an infield single.

In the second inning, Dykstra hit a solo home run to right-center, and shortstop Ayden VanEnkevort brought home Gulbrandsen, who had singled, with a sacrifice fly. In the third inning, catcher Emmanuel Scott, after being walked, advanced on an Evan Morrison single and scored via a Gulbrandsen double.

Roosevelt responded with four unearned runs in the fifth inning, narrowing GVSU's lead to 7-6. However, the Lakers extended their lead in the sixth inning. Gulbrandsen was hit by a pitch and later scored on a two-out triple by Thelen, with right fielder Ryan Stimac bringing Thelen home with a single to left-center.

Jonas Gulbrandsen had a notable game, going 3-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Caden Thelen contributed with two hits and two RBIs. Guciardo, Morrison, and Estrada also had multiple hits in the game.

Senior Allan Thorington earned the win, improving his record to 4-0. He gave up six runs, with only two earned, on seven hits while striking out four. Senior Will Goebel pitched 2.1 innings of hitless relief, and sophomore Zach Warren secured his first save with 1.2 hitless innings.
