Grand Valley State University's baseball team is set to host Wayne State University for a four-game series starting Thursday at 3 p.m. This marks GVSU's final regular-season home series, with the Lakers honoring 11 seniors before Saturday's game around 11:30 a.m.
The Lakers have enjoyed a strong season with a 28-9 overall record and an 11-5 standing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). With one of the best lineups in GLIAC and a leading pitching staff boasting a 3.43 earned run average, GVSU sits second in the GLIAC standings. Key players include left fielder Ryan Dykstra, first baseman Jonas Gulbrandsen, shortstop Evan Morrison, catcher Brendan Guciardo, and second baseman Ayden VanEnkevort. Center fielder Caden Thelen is highlighted as GLIAC Player of the Week. The starting pitchers, RHP Collin Bradley, RHP Jayden Denter, RHP Owen Avery, and LHP Allan Thorington, are noted for their consistent performances.
Wayne State, standing third in the GLIAC with an 18-18 record, will present a competitive challenge. Despite the exit of a top pitching staff, veteran infielders, including Bennett Hitzelberger, Mason McGuire, and others, support the Warriors' lineup. Pitchers Will DeMasse and Gabe Nazelli are recognized for their contributions in GLIAC play.
