GVSU men's golf ties for fifth in regionals opening round

The GVSU men's golf team participated in the first round of regional play, concluding the day tied for fifth place. The team finished two strokes behind the top three contenders.

Central Oklahoma leads after the initial 18 holes, boasting a score of four under par. Central Missouri holds second place with a six-over-par finish. Arkansas Tech and Missouri S&T are tied for third at eight over par. GVSU shares fifth place with Concordia-St. Paul, both teams ending at ten over par.

Individually, Manuel Cue achieved an even-par 71, making five birdies to secure a tie for sixth place. Drew Coble is tied for 13th with a one-over-par 72, having made three birdies during his round. Charlie Cooley concluded his round with three consecutive birdies to post a score of 75 (+4), tying him for 49th place. Bryce Wheeler ended in a tie for 58th after shooting a 76 (+5) and making one birdie. Ryan Gallagher recorded a score of 79 (+8) with one birdie, placing him in a tie for 93rd.

GVSU will resume play tomorrow morning at 8:30 Eastern Time, paired once more with Central Oklahoma and Missouri S&T.
