State Representative Nancy DeBoer of Holland has expressed her support for a funding proposal aimed at enhancing recreational facilities in Ottawa County. The initiative includes improvements to Winstrom Park Trails and the surrounding natural area.

The proposed investment amounts to $326,700 and is set to fund renovations of trails, boardwalks, and overlooks within Winstrom Park. Additionally, the project will introduce new benches, a trail kiosk, and educational signage designed to boost environmental awareness and public engagement.

“We’re all so blessed to call beautiful West Michigan home, and these investments allow us to appreciate, celebrate, and experience our natural surroundings even more,” stated DeBoer. “I’m proud to support projects that improve public access and recreation in Ottawa County because they strengthen our community and quality of life.”

This funding is part of House Bill 4392 which allocates a total of $41.7 million for outdoor development throughout the state. The bill covers 17 land acquisition projects alongside 68 recreational development initiatives. The entire funding comes from the Natural Resources Trust Fund without affecting the state’s General Fund.

“Investing in our parks is investing in our future,” added DeBoer. “These are the kinds of improvements that make West Michigan such a special place to live and visit.”

The House has approved the bill which now moves forward to the Senate for further deliberation.
