Erika Beistle has been recognized as the NCAA Division II Women's National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the second time this season. The announcement was made today on the USTFCCCA website.
Beistle, described by the USTFCCCA as "one of the best discus throwers that NCAA DII has ever seen," participated in two events over the weekend to further solidify her standing. On Friday, she competed at the Len Paddock Open in Ann Arbor, Michigan, before attending the GVSU Last Chance Meet on Sunday.
During these competitions, Beistle achieved significant milestones at her final home meet of the regular season. She recorded throws measuring 65.02 meters (213-4), 63.74 meters (209-1), and 62.90 meters (206-4), which rank as No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 all-time marks respectively.
Since this season's start, Beistle has consistently set top-six marks in NCAA DII history, including a record-setting throw of 66.63 meters (218-7). As a reigning national champion in discus, she aims to defend her title at next week's NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
